Frigstad D90 semi-submersible drilling unit - ,

The Frigstad D90 is a semi-submersible drilling unit design for ultra deepwater exploration & development. Peutz has conducted wind tunnel tests to determine the wind and current loads for stability assessment and DP. In addition a full test matrix of helicopter deck turbulence measurements has been conducted according to the CAP 437 requirements. The tests have been conducted at the wind tunnel facility of Peutz.

World Port Center - Rotterdam, The Netherlands

Standing alongside the distinctive Hotel New York on Rotterdam’s Wilhelmina Pier is the World Port Center. The office building’s principal occupant is the Port of Rotterdam Authority. The top floors of the 32-storey building are devoted to large conference rooms that provide a fantastic view over the port.
In consultation with the client and the architect, steps were taken to find solutions for the problems with the wind climate around the building, and particularly on the terrace.

Wind and current loads for DP: SapuraKencana 1200 - ,

Measurements of the wind loads have been conducted on a scale model of the Ulstein designed SapuraKencana 1200 pipelay vessel. The wind loads are measured with a high frequency 6-component balance system, while the model is exposed to an approach flow according to the actual maritime wind velocity and turbulence boundary layer profile. Also current loads for several stinger configurations have been measured in the wind tunnel.

Heerema Sleipnir semi-submersible crane vessel - ,

Heerema's Sleipnir is designed for worldwide offshore heavy lifting. It will be equipped with two cranes of 10,000 metric tonnes lifting capacity each and a deck area of 220 x 102 meters, which will make it the largest crane vessel in the world. The Sleipnir is self-propelled by means of dual fuel engines – MGO & LNG. Peutz has conducted a CFD assessment of the effects of a LNG release from over pressure blow off and LNG bunker spill scenario's.

Wind Load JIP FPSO - ,

The Wind Load JIP aimes at setting new standards for wind tunnel measurements of wind loads and CFD calculations for the maritime and offshore industry. Peutz has conducted wind tunnel measurements of wind loads on a model of a FPSO and a semi-submersible production unit. The effects of changes in roughness of the boundary layer, variation of configurations as well as sensitivity to different types of set-up have been investigated.

Wind loads for DP and stability: Drillship - ,

Measurements of the wind loads have been conducted on a scale model of an Ulstein designed drillship. Through wind tunnel measurements of the wind load coefficients the highest accuracy is achieved in calculation of required thrust capacities, DP capability and DP definition and optimisation.

Helicopter deck turbulence assessment: AEGIR - ,

To ensure safe helicopter operations offshore helicopter deck certification (CAP 437, NORSOK C-004) requires an assessment of turbulence levels in the airspace above the helideck. The turbulence level can be directly measured in the wind tunnel, while the scale model is exposed to an approach flow according to the actual maritime wind velocity and turbulence boundary layer profile.
